Pairwise comparison locomotion scoring for dairy cattle

چکیده

Conventional locomotion scoring is a subjective, absolute, and discrete assessment of locomotion. Here we assess pairwise comparison to improve upon the limited intra- interobserver consistency typical conventional scoring. Five observers performed 4-level using 50 video recordings dairy cattle, also assessed 90 pairs videos (composed from same recordings) relative Intra- scores [intraobserver: percentage agreement (PA) = 82%, ? 0.63; interobserver: PA 79%, 0.57] were greater than absolute (intraobserver: 72%, ?w 0.74; 56%, 0.59). Pairwise scaled with an optimization method obtain position on continuous scale. These (CLS) compared mean visual (VLS). Correlation between CLS VLS was strong (? 0.69), binarized high (PA 84%, 0.66 for threshold ?1). Just noticeable difference (JND) 0.3 scale ranging 0 3. scaling had binary finer granularity The method, associated scaling, offer more consistent informative alternative multilevel

Study on Distribution of Dairy Cattle Hoof Lesions and its Relation to Locomotion Scoring

Objectives- To evaluate the most important bovine digital lesions in shahrekord area and its correlation with locomotion scoring. Study Design- Cross- Sectional descriptive study. Animals- five hundred and eighteen cows inspected in two seasons. Methods- Three dairy farms on three scales (1: Large, approximately 900 milking cows, 2: Medium, approximately 100 milking cows, and 3: Small, app...

Comparison of disease severity scoring systems for dairy cattle with acute coliform mastitis.

OBJECTIVE To compare use of 4 disease severity scoring systems to predict bacteremia (yes vs no) and outcome (survived vs died or culled) in dairy cows with acute coliform mastitis (ACM). DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. ANIMALS 99 dairy cows with ACM. PROCEDURES Cows were classified as having mild, moderate, or severe disease with a scoring system based on systemic disease signs alone ...

Comparison of a classical with a highly formularized body condition scoring system for dairy cattle.

Body condition scoring is a common tool to assess the subcutaneous fat reserves of dairy cows. Because of its subjectivity, which causes limits in repeatability, it is often discussed controversially. Aim of the current study was to evaluate the impact of considering the cows overall appearance on the scoring process and on the validity of the results. Therefore, two different methods to reveal...

Body Condition Scoring of Dairy Cattle: A Review

The body condition scoring (BCS) is a subjective estimate of the energy reserves in adipose tissues of a dairy cow. It is an acceptive, noninvasive, quick and inexpensive method to estimate degree of fatness. It is a means of accurately determining body condition of dairy cows, independent of body weight and frame size [1]. It is evinced that the profile of lactating cows in milch barn is diffe...

Trace Mineral Requirements for Dairy Cattle

A host of nutrients are needed by cattle to support functions associated with life, and to grow, reproduce, and nourish their offspring (i.e., produce milk). A vast amount of resources have been expended to quantify the amounts of specific nutrients needed to perform these function so that economically efficient diets can be formulated. Feeding diets that provide adequate, but not excessive, am...
